Li Xiaodong Atelier , Architect
In practice since 1997, Li Xiaodong and his Chinese Atelier are still burgeoning. Focusing on small, sensitive projects, his architecture seeks to merge contemporary expression with technical and artistic knowledge to create an appropriate ‘Chinese architecture’. He recently appeared alongside a host of architects for the Royal Academy’s Sensing Spaces exhibition, for which he created a labyrinth-like space, reminiscent of his Liyuan Library in China, leading to a zen garden. In 2009 his Bridge School in Xiashi, China, won the AR Emerging Architecture Award, having already received a high commendation in 2005.
