Eric Owen Moss
Eric Owen Moss Architects , CEO
A native of Los Angeles, Eric Moss studied architecture at UCLA, Berkeley and Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Moss has held teaching positions at major universities around the world including Harvard, Yale, Columbia, the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, and the Royal Academy in Copenhagen.
Moss has also been a longtime professor at the influential Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc), and has served as its director since 2003. He founded Eric Owen Moss Architects in 1973, working extensively in the Culver City district of Los Angeles. Moss's distinctive projects, such the Samitaur Tower and Stealth, continue to re-shape the discourse of international architecture. 'Building has an obligation, always larger than itself, to the city and the culture it intends to join', he says. The elusive notion of 'what is architecture?' continues to manifest itself in the Eric Owen Moss office through the creation of new city plans and buildings, together with exhibitions, lectures, publications and pedagogy.
