Robbrecht en Daem , Architect

Hilde Daem studied architecture at the Academy of Ghent before starting a practice with her husband, Paul Robbrecht in 1975. Three years after their formation the practice won the Godecharle competition for architecture, and went on to be awarded the Prix de Rome and numerous others for their works in Belgium, achieving international recognition with an RIBA International Fellowship in 2009. Robbrecht en Daem continues to produce work that explores the relationship between architectural design and the visual arts, with a portfolio ranging from exhibitions and interior design to art centres, housing and urban masterplans. In 2011 the practice held their first UK exhibition, Pacing Through Architecture at the Whitechapel Gallery, and more recently they have won the competition for the new Udarnik Contemporary Art Museum in Moscow.
